Straight answers

Questions we hear every week

Is my staircase straight?

If the rail can run in one line from the bottom step to the top step with no landing, turn, or curve in between, it is straight. Stairs that turn at a landing, even a small one, need a curved stairlift with a custom rail, or in some homes two straight lifts.

How much does a straight stairlift cost installed?

Most new straight stairlifts land somewhere between about $3,000 and $8,000 installed. Rail length, the model, and options such as a folding rail or powered swivel seat set where yours falls. Certified pre-owned units cost roughly half as much, and renting is an option for a recovery. We put the exact number in writing after a free visit.

How soon can it be installed?

Often within a week of the consultation, sometimes sooner if the unit is in stock. The installation itself takes two to three hours and you ride it the same day.

Will the rail block the bottom of the stairs?

A standard rail extends past the bottom step. If that lands in a doorway or hall, a folding rail hinges up out of the way, by hand on the Harmar and powered on the K2.

Which one should I choose?

The Savaria K2 for most homes and anyone over about 225 lb. The K2 Plus for a 400 lb rating or wheelchair transfers. The Harmar Pinnacle SL300 for lighter riders who want the slimmest fold. We measure, then tell you plainly which fits.
