Handicare 4000 curved stairlift parked at the bottom of a turning staircase

Curved stairlifts

Handicare 4000: the curved stairlift we recommend first

Two slim rails that hug the staircase, take tight turns, and leave more of the stairs clear. Built to your staircase from photo measurements, with four seat styles and three rail colors. It is our go-to for stairs that turn, split at a landing, or spiral. We are a Handicare dealer, so the Freecurve and the 1000 and 1100 straight lifts are on the table too.

Why the 4000

  • The twin rail

Two slim tubes instead of one fat rail. It sits closer to the wall, takes tighter turns, and keeps more of the staircase open for everyone else.

  • Built to your stairs

We photograph the staircase; Savaria builds the rail to match. It arrives in sections two to five weeks later and goes in within a day.

  • A seat for the rider

Four seats, from the standard Simplicity to the Perch for people who cannot bend their knees, in sand, cocoa, slate, or vanilla. The powered footrest fits any seat; the powered swivel is for the Smart and Style seats.

  • It holds up

Rack and pinion drive, battery charging at each end of the rail, and parts and service from us. It is the curved lift we see the fewest problems with.

Seats, colors, and power upgrades

Pick the seat for the rider, then the color. The powered footrest folds the footrest up and down at the push of a button and fits any seat. The powered swivel turns the seat toward the landing at the top and is available on the Smart and Style seats.

Questions we hear every week

Do you install other Handicare stairlifts?

Yes. We are a Handicare dealer. The 4000 is the curved lift we recommend first, and we also install the Freecurve single-rail curved lift and the Handicare 1000 and 1100 straight lifts. For most straight staircases we still recommend the Savaria K2 first; the Handicare straights fit when a rider wants the Smart or Perch seat, a 440 lb rating, or the slimmest fold.

Why is the Handicare 4000 the curved stairlift you recommend first?

The twin rail. Two slim tubes follow the stairs closer to the wall than a single fat rail, take tighter turns, and keep more of the staircase clear. It has held up in our customers' homes, the seat choices cover most riders, and Savaria builds the custom rail in two to five weeks.

How much does a Handicare 4000 cost?

Curved stairlifts generally start somewhere around $10,000 installed and go up with the length and complexity of the rail. Each extra turn, landing, or parking curve adds to it. We measure in person and give you a written number; a curved rail cannot be priced accurately over the phone.

How is the rail measured?

We photograph your staircase with Savaria's PS4D photo-measuring system and the rail is built from those images to match your stairs exactly. It arrives in sections two to five weeks later and goes in within a day.

What is the weight limit?

300 lb as standard. The XXL heavy-duty upgrade raises it to 350 lb. Tell us the rider's weight when we quote and we will spec the right one.

Will it fit a narrow staircase?

Usually. Folded, the seat and footrest take about 16 inches. The seat measurements sheet has every seat folded and open. We confirm the clear width at the measurement visit.

Can it go outdoors?

Yes, with the outdoor package: nickel-plated rails, stainless stanchions, and a weather-resistant slate seat. Moderate climates only, with a cover when not in use.

Stairs that turn? Start with a free measurement.

Call and describe the staircase, or request a visit. We photograph and measure it, show you the seat and rail choices, and leave a written price. No pressure and no follow-up sales calls.
